VPNs - What Good Are They?
Right. So. Elections happened. With it, protests happened, as well.
We've had a very sharp uptick of people asking us how to better protect their online *and offline* privacy. There are plenty of options out there, for sure, but the most commonly asked is about "VPNs."
A VPN, or Virtual Private Network, simplified, is a secured (encrypted) connection to the Internet. It can be useful BUT it does require at least a bit of knowledge to set up to effectively protect your web usage. So, a lot of programs and services promise that they can offer security with little effort past installing an app.
Don't. Ever. Think you can have bulletproof security -- or security, at all -- without putting forward effort. There is no magic wand. There is no guarantee. If you see ANY service promising you'll be 100% secure, run!
